Abstract

Purpose: To explore the potential of Filter Bank Multicarrier Modulation (FBMC) as an efficient and reliable alternative to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in meeting the increasing demand for high-speed mobile communications.

Materials and Methods: This study is based on three main approaches: (1) conducting practical experiments and measurements to evaluate the feasibility of FBMC, (2) performing a theoretical analysis to derive the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) for deeper performance insights, and (3) providing a practical implementation guide supported by MATLAB simulations to assist researchers and engineers in applying FBMC systems.

Results: Both empirical and theoretical findings demonstrate that FBMC outperforms OFDM in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER), particularly under low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) conditions. Additionally, FBMC shows improved spectral efficiency, enhanced interference mitigation, and reduced Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR).

Conclusion: FBMC is a promising modulation technique capable of addressing the challenges of next-generation mobile communication systems. Its superior performance in challenging environments makes it a strong candidate for future wireless communication technologies.
